NOTE: Tom Hayes (son. of Herman N. Hayes, Sr.) remembers his father talking about his father (William Thomas Hayes). He said that Thomas liked to wrestle. It was said that he could take two men on at one time and beat them. Another interesting bit of information was that Henry and William Belk of the Belk Department Stores raised William Thomas and his sister Margaret Elizabeth Haywood Hayes inherited the Hayes homestead on the railroad tracks at Stouts.
