We've traced the Hayes lineage back to John Hays (c.1797-1878). His son, Thomas Nelson Hayes, was born about 1833 and married Margaret Gay in Union County in 1852.
The line with the most descendants was headed by Fred and Maggie Hayes. However, descendants of Fred's brother Herman Hayes and his wife Eula, as well as those of Fred's sister Maude and her husband Young T. Garrison, have stayed close. In August, 2017, we also made a connection with Dr. Jack "Jay" Hayes and his family. Jay is the grandson of Fred's brother Walter.
