Obituary for Clyde "Skip" Long:  C.H. “Skip” Long, Jr. beloved father, partner, and friend passed away peacefully Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on June 9, 1940, Skip lived a life full of dedication, adventure, and service.

After proudly graduating from Florida State University’s College of Business’s School of Risk Management/Insurance, Skip served honorably in the United States Coast Guard Reserves during Vietnam. He purchased and successfully ran Long & Co. Insurance Agency for well over 50 years. During those years, Skip was involved as Director of FAIA and President of Clearwater Independent Insurors Association. He lobbied for the State of Florida Legislature in Tallahassee and in the United States House of Representatives. 
Skip was a Free Mason, a Shriner, and a Kentucky Colonel.

Skip’s great passions in life included founding the dive club Suncoast Seals in 1959. He was actively involved as a president and member for over 60 years. He was a Nationally competitive free diver and spearfisherman. He loved the Suncoast Seals, the comradery of its members, and was fiercely competitive. 

Skip also enjoyed art. He was a patron and contributor to Dunedin Fine Arts Center from its conception. In retirement, he found a passion for painting of his own. Skip was a runner for decades: a marathoner and triathlete. Skip loved traveling the world and shared that love with his family. 

The sea was Skip’s sanctuary, a place where he found peace and exhilaration. His love of the water and diving took him to many beautiful and exotic locations.

Skip was preceded in death by his father Clyde Herman Long Sr., his mother Verla “Susie” Hayes Long, his sisters Beverly Burlage and Barbara Fillmon.
Skip is survived by his partner Jan Camplin, his daughters Deborah (Sloan) Simpson and Elizabeth (Michael) Affendakes, and his grandchildren Reed, Eleni, Finn, and Sydney. Skip also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
